Page sizes are calculated from each screen's size and resolution, for a manga page (about 1:1.42) shown as a spread filling the screen. Prices are US list prices as of September 2026 (the 13-inch tablet figure is a typical online street price); check each maker's site for the latest.

Each spread next to a printed manga volume

Here is each option showing a spread, drawn to the same scale. White is the manga page; black is unused screen and the device frame. The printed book is a standard US manga volume.
A foldable or an iPad is held wide, with two pages on one screen. Two phones or two tablets are held upright side by side, one page on each.

On a foldable, one page is about 60% as wide as a printed volume. Two phones land at nearly the same size. An iPad in landscape gives a page a little smaller than the printed one, and two tablets go well past it. With the two 13.4-inch tablets in the figure, one page is about the size of a Japanese weekly manga magazine page (B5, 182 × 257 mm). Two 11-inch tablets are still larger than a printed volume.
Galaxy Z Fold8 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold are nearly the same size as the iPhone Duo, so they are left out of the figure. Spread width includes the seam between the two devices.

What to know before reading manga on a foldable phone

One page is smaller than a printed page

A 7.6 to 8.0-inch screen is split into two pages, so one page is about 73 to 78 mm wide. That is roughly 60% of a printed manga volume (127 mm wide).

A bigger screen does not always mean a bigger page

Manga pages are tall, so a squarer screen leaves empty space above and below. That is why the 7.6-inch iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold8 give a larger page than the 8.0-inch Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Prices run from about $1,900 to $2,000

That makes sense as your everyday phone. If reading spreads is the only goal, it is a large outlay.

What to know before reading manga on an iPad in landscape

You cannot hold it at an angle like a book

It is one flat screen, so the left and right pages cannot open at an angle the way a printed book does. That is the difference from a foldable with a hinge, or from two devices side by side.

One page is half the screen

The screen is split into two pages, so even on an 11-inch iPad one page is about 111 × 157 mm, a little smaller than a printed manga volume.

Spread view depends on the app

Whether landscape shows two pages differs by app and service. Some stay on one page even in landscape.

What to know before reading manga on an e-reader

You can only read books from that device's store

A Kindle reads Kindle Store books and a Kobo reads Kobo books. Manga published through apps or the web, such as MANGA Plus, cannot be read on them.

Spreads need a 10-inch or larger model

On a 6 to 7-inch model, one page is too small even in landscape. Models of 10 inches and up cost about $400 to $680.

E-paper is mostly black and white

It is easy on the eyes and the battery lasts, but most models are monochrome and even color models have muted colors. Titles with many color pages look different.

Add one phone to the one you have for a spread in the same class as a foldable

• You can hold the two at an angle like a book. A single tablet or an e-reader is a flat screen; two devices open with an angle between the pages. An off-the-shelf attachment can join them.

How to make a spread with two phones

1. STEP 01

   Install MIHIRAKI on both devices

   Get it free from the App Store or Google Play on both devices. An iPhone and an Android device can be paired together.

2. STEP 02

   Pair them with a QR code

   Choose "Show QR code" on one device and "Scan QR code" on the other. The device showing the code becomes the parent (right page) and the scanning device becomes the child (left page).

3. STEP 03

   Open a title on the parent device

   Pick a service on the parent device and open a title. The child device follows automatically and the pages split left and right.

4. STEP 04

   Turn the pages

   Both devices advance together when you turn a page. If a title is offset by one page, fix it from the spread-alignment option in the menu.

FAQ

Should I wait for the iPhone Duo?

If you are replacing your everyday phone, waiting to see the real device makes sense. If reading spreads is the goal, you can try it today with two devices you already have. The app is free, so you can decide after trying.

Is the seam between the two devices distracting?

Two phones leave a seam of about 1 cm. It sits in the middle, where the gutter of a printed book is. Taking the cases off or using phones with thin bezels narrows it. A single picture drawn across both pages will have a line down the middle.

I do not have a second phone

A hand-me-down or a cheap used model is enough, and older models are fine. With a single device, MIHIRAKI CLOCK turns it into a desk clock that rotates your favorite manga covers.

Can the two screens be different sizes?

Yes. A big difference makes the two pages mismatch in height, so two of the same model or a similar screen size work best.
